At just 5’6”, most people didn’t believe it was possible for me to sign, but Coach Frank never let my size define me. He turned me into a real prospect, and I signed with the Oakland Athletics for $175,000. He taught me everything I know—the love of the game, hitting, defense—and helped me reach professional baseball, playing up to Double-A. I’m still playing today in independent ball.
The only regret I have is not listening to one piece of advice Coach Frank gave me over and over: after a long season, skip winter ball and use the offseason to build strength and get in better shape.
